Ōita Prefecture, located in eastern Kyushu, is so abundant in hot springs that it is fondly referred to as the “Onsen Prefecture.” From Beppu Onsen to Yufuin Onsen, it boasts some of Japan’s highest hot spring outputs in terms of both volume and variety. Popular attractions include the “hell tour” (jigoku meguri), showcasing unique thermal features, and the artful streetscapes of Yufuin set against scenic surroundings.
